Jessica Alba named as one of America’s richest self-made women by Forbes
This well-known actress is not just a pretty face – regularly listed as one of the most beautiful women in the world, Jessica Alba has appeared on the covers of numerous magazines but it is only since her appearance on Forbes’ list of America’s Richest Self-Made Women that she has been recognized for her brains instead of her looks. This is thanks to Jessica’s role as the co-founder of The Honest Company.
While taking time out after the birth of her child, Jessica began to become worries about the negative effects that mainstreams products were having on her child. Jessica herself had suffered terribly with allergies as a child and her chronic asthma made her vulnerable to pneumonia. Owing to her fears and own experience, she began to look for information about alternative products, free from chemicals. Using natural ingredients, Jessica began making her own products and that was when, through the Healthy Child Healthy World organization, she met Christopher Gavigan. Together they started The Honest Company, with the aim of providing natural products for childcare.
With the aim of showing transparency and ethical values through the company name, they began selling in 2012 and within 12 months had accumulated a revenue of $10 million. The company continued growing and by last year it had reached $150 million, with many industry insiders predicting that it could reach over $250 million per year.
